Okay, let me first say that I appreciate flash fiction and snippets from authors. I do.
Is it strictly fair to criticize editing in flash fiction? I don’t know. I mean, I wouldn’t hold typos against the work or the author or expect truly polished work. But content-wise, maybe yes. I’d at least expect the snippet to have continuity, to be consistent with the backstory of the series.
So flash fiction centered around a junior year yearbook fails for me as a reader when you (the author and world builder) have previously told me the character only made it halfway through tenth grade.
It makes me wonder about your world building and consistency now.
But I’ll still check out the next book of the series.
